1968 – Built my first pottery wheel under my father’s tutelage at the age of twelve.
1976-1978 – Studied at the Ceramics Lab at the University of Oklahoma, in Norman.
1978– Attended The Fine Arts School at the University of Texas in Austin.
1978-1980 – Selected for an Apprenticeship at Sprinkle Studio creating functional production stoneware pottery in Austin and Dallas, Texas. Study required mastery of all aspects of a production ceramics studio.

1980-1982 – Opened studio – John Weaver – Raku Potter.
Produced and marketed fine-craft Raku Ceramics at select craft shows and through representation in fine-craft galleries in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston, Texas.
1981– Texas Designer/Craftsmen Exhibition. Three pieces accepted for exhibition, one received recognition award. Also awarded “New Artist” Grant.
1981 – HumanArts, Dallas, Texas – Solo artist show at fine-craft gallery.
1995-1996 – Attended Austin Community College to study Art Metal.
Focused on metal sculpture, welding, (MIG, TIG and Oxyacetylen), torch, heating, cutting, welding and forging.
1996-2001 – Opened Ribbons of Steel, a steel studio in Ballston Spa, New York.
Constructed and operated steel sculpture studio, including a blacksmithing forge, TIG welder and full torch setup.
Selected as Resident Artist at Starbucks, Saratoga Springs, New York.
Conducted a solo artist exhibit – “Where Art is Hard and Life is Celebrated”
2006 – Began painting under my mother’s tutelage with a focus on acrylic, oil and digital.
2008 – Studied Handbag Design at Dallas Designing Dreams in Texas.
Created handmade leather bags from design and construction to fit and finish.
2008-2011 – Established Takumi Leather works.
Designed and constructed leather goods for the fashion industry. One design was selected to be featured in a George Clooney commercial shoot in Italy.
2011- 2014 – Branded Tallgrass Bags.
Created one-of-a-kind, designs on the western resort market using North American bison.
2019 to Present – John Weaver Art.com introduced a marketplace for online sales.
